One of the newest ways to learn about Biscayne National Park is to hop into a canoe or kayak and explore the mangrove forest with an institute naturalist. Although the mangroves are home to many species of flora and fauna, one of the main highlights are the birds. At lower tides many species of wading birds traverse the water’s edge while cormorants can be seen saluting the morning sun perched above the water in the canopy. Osprey and frigate birds soar high above, while calls from the rare Mangrove Cuckoo and sightings of Brown Pelicans are also common experiences.

Paddling offers a quiet approach and a wonderful way to explore, learn and experience one of the ecosystems of Biscayne National Park. Bring your binoculars and come see birds and more! Check the calendar at Biscayne National Park Institute website.
